Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a brief, solution-based, experiential therapy that uses the natural behavior of horses and herds as a model and metaphor for human mental and emotional health.  Most people are familiar with the expression, “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.” It is very true that you cannot make a horse drink water and it is a perfect metaphor for parenting a willful child or trying to control other people or situations.

IS EAP OR EAL RIGHT FOR ME?

EAP is a great therapeutic modality for adults, adolescents and children with anxiety, PTSD, anger, sadness or grief, issues related to self-esteem, social skill issues such as communication and setting and having appropriate boundaries. Additionally, people that have issues with trust, decision-making and control can benefit from EAL. EAP/EAL is also very effective for families in improving communication, problem solving and other family relationship issues. For couples it is useful for improving communication and in general, learning to be better partners.
